Music from last night
So my last gig I was having technical problems that required the changing of one of the CDJ mid set at peak time. Well it happens,it sucks and you have to deal (panic may kick in so whatever you do don’t press play on a Pitbull track in the middle of a house music night).
Crisis averted …and on the next. I have absolutely no idea what makes people (usually girls) get the idea that is ok to come up to me (the DJ) and start touching shit?! WTF?! I am not sure what this girl wanted but she was reaching for all types of buttons ?! And just so that you know, telling me your life story when I have a monitor blasting next me means I wont hear a single word you are saying! So it is useless to try and explain yourself even.
Now I honestly do not care how much you have had to drink, who just dumped you, where you left your jacket and the random announcements of dug consumption …whatever you do…PLEASE stay away from the console. It is neither cute nor funny when something breaks or malfunctions because you think the Dj deck is your Ipod touch
Thanks,
M
Ok so I haven’t written anything in a while. Not so sure why (possibly lack of inspiration)
The Person mentioned above knows himself (I’m being nice by using the word idiot by the way)
So while I was dealing with a colossal idiot situation in my life the past week, I discovered something during that week that is more important than a trivial person and his ass-holiness : I have amazing friends
A lot of them happen to be in the music industry one way or another: Dj’s , Musicians, Vocalists, Producers. The whole package!
To get to the point this is a shout out to my Dj friends: the more I spend time with them , the more I discover how we all have similar traits , yet totally different perspectives on doing things.
Sharing experiences and having a laugh at things only a Dj will get: (retarded requests, hopeless come-ons, technical oops situations) . And being the only girls among them its always fun to be included and discover we all go through more or less the same situations (can you please play beyonce? is a universal request on a Cairo dance floor)
Thank you guys for the endless support, you all know who you are.
About being a female Dj in general I would assume is a challenging job. To be a Female Dj in EGYPT out of all places….is ummm wait for my next post…

So it is that month when things change…
Leaves start to turn…..fall graces us with tolerable weather…it is the beginning of party season (even Earth Wind and Fire made a song about the month)…..DJ Mag votes…and bad music!!
What I remember most about the month (other than my sister’s birthday ) is the release Nirvana’s landmark record Nevermind came out in September of 1991 (I was 11 but hey, whatever never mind yeah?) The legendary album (with the naked baby underwater swimming after a dollar in a fish-hook which has important symbolism but at the time I just thought it was a freaky baby) that a lot of us grew up to marks its 20th anniversary and reminds us of our awkward teenage years (braces, funny haircuts, pretending we are in pain and dark and twisted) yet still sounds fresh with David Grohl’s express train drumming , Kurt Kobain’s legendary shocking scream in”Smells like teen spirit” that if you try and sing along you find out it is impossible to do.
lets not forget the infamous underwater like guitar intro to “Come as you are” that just makes you want to bust into your best air guitar moves.
It all made me wonder how the kind of music we hear affects us, especially growing up. With today’s thumping baselines, riffs, synth bass and drum loops bolting music into the electronic digital realm (sometimes creating inaudible sounds) helps get us to that same feeling we did when we rocked out to Nirvana? or will house and other electronic music make it to its 20th anniversaries and still be played by people world-wide ?
Anyhow, that being said I have been listening to some terrible music in passing (especially when I go out) but sometimes a Dj or band will surprise you once in a while (yes I mean the likes of newcomer Aly B and new revamped band Soopar Lox)
Here is my Resident Advisor September chart on the occasion

So this post is not about anything specific music wise, rather about me

When I first started Djying I never thought Id get here…to where I am actually doing it with representation.
I happy to join Nineteen84 Management, especially that they represent my favorite female Dj Ashibah

This is my 2nd live blog…I can’t believe I’m doing this in the middle of a party..but please put in mind that some of us don’t do drugs , thanks.
Ok so I’m a total mess when it comes to checking my phone periodically. A friend suggested that I should blog from my phone (will be great when I’m out and bored and the dj is playing crap!)
In short this is a test.
Cheers,
M
So for my June 11 Chart I decided I shall go with my favourite deep tunes. Let me know what you think.

The reason I decided to create a Facebook page called Dubstep Cairo, is because after getting into dubstep myself I started to think I’m alone here in Cairo until a few friends started liking the random tracks I post on my wall.
What really inspired this is my sister who randomly started liking some of the tracks I posted. Made me wonder “how many people actually like Dubstep and live in this city?”
With over 50 members and the most active group on my Facebook account sharing a lot of music (we have a few Dj’s on board and we sometimes get lucky when someone posts a set!)
I am very happy I started this, and happy I brought people who like a very particular genre together.
Originated in south London in the 90”s, Dubstep has an overall unique sound with overpowering bass lines and clear influences of drum and bass.
Dubstep sounds became more popular I believe is when big Dj’s hit the popular charts by the likes of Skrillex, Nero and Feedme.
Check it out (it is an acquired taste for some)
